GRETNA RECREATION + AQUATIC CENTER

To meet the needs of their rapidly growing community, the City of Gretna and Gretna Public Schools are partnering with DLR Group, JEO Consulting, and MCL Construction to design and build a new Gretna Recreation and Aquatic Center as well as teaming with the YMCA to be the operator of the facility. The facility will be part of the larger Gretna Crossing Park which will provide the city and surrounding communities with new and improved recreation-based amenities. In addition to the recreation center, the $54M park Gretna Crossing Park will include new baseball and softball fields and batting cages, picnic shelters, playgrounds, amphitheater, dog park, fishing pond, outdoor classroom and arboretum, hiking trails, as well as improved site access and utility infrastructure. DLR Group’s design will provide the user year round access to fitness classes, cardio, weight equipment, indoor swimming, gymnasium, and community meeting rooms. The outdoor water park will be an iconic landmark for the park and will be available not only to the people of Gretna but also as a destination for surrounding communities. The design of the building is such that it will be flexible and expandable as the needs of the facility and community change over time, while being sensitive to the efficient use of space, building systems, maintenance, and materials.
